Back to reality after a very relaxing long weekend! When I say back to reality, I mean thrown right back in - this week is going to be a very busy week. My company is launching a new product so it's a crazy (but oh so good) time to be a marketer! :)
The quote is obviously unrelated but still worth sharing.
I saw this and loved it and completely agree.
I'm back at work after a fantastic weekend away with my ladies for my birthday - SO much fun I can't even stand it. I was off yesterday for a much needed bonus weekend day of basically doing nothing, so just catching up today. More on my weekend later though! :)
I suppose this isn't REALLY wisdom, but some words from William Shakespeare that I wanted to share. This quote was on one of my birthday cards. So simple, and so beautiful.

Nelson Mandela 1918-2013 |
I'm sure you've already heard, but yesterday the world lost a great man. A man who was strong and inspirational, and symbolic in that he remained both of those things despite some of the toughest times and trials a person can endure. Nelson Mandela was known for his longstanding fight against South Africa's white supremacist
government, which lead him to be arrested, convicted of conspiracy to overthrow the government, and sentenced to life in prison. In 1990, after serving 27 years in prison, he was set free by the then-President F.W. de Klerk. From there the two worked together to avoid a civil war, earning them both a Nobel Peace Prize. He later became the first black South African to hold office when he served as President of South Africa from 1994-1999. His government focused on tackling institutionalized racism, poverty and inequality, and fostering racial reconciliation.
Nelson Mandela is one of those rare, special people that shares the same light with the likes of Gandhi and Martin Luther King. He will live forever as a symbol and his words I imagine will continue to touch and inspire. On that note, here are some of my favourite quotes of his:
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
"Part of being optimistic is keeping one's head pointed toward the sun, one's feet moving forward. There were many dark moments when my faith in humanity was sorely tested, but I would not and could not give myself up to despair."
"I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it."
"A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination."
"As I walked out the door toward freedom I knew that if I did not leave all the anger, hatred, and bitterness behind, that I would still be in prison."
"It always seems impossible until it's done."
I noticed this morning that Pinterest has put up a section "Honoring a man who inspired millions with his words and actions". If you have a moment you should check it out.
This is probably one of my absolute fave Marilyn Monroe quotes of all time and I think something that everyone should remember at any point in their lives (except maybe the "trust no one but yourself" part... but you get the idea!). Go with the flow and know whatever is meant to be will be. You might not know the reason when it's happening, but just trust it will make sense in the end...
No matter what "IT" is, it's out there...
This my friends, is a FACT!
Well here I am, one day into a very busy week! Just one of those times where there is a strong wave of many things being thrown your way all at once. With a desire to still post I think this week is going to simply be a quote week. For me or for you - who doesn't like a good quote to keep moving! Happy Tuesday!
I don't know about you, but I'm of the mind that most of us definitely over-complicate things... we lose focus and forget about the little things, the simple things. That's why I love this quote so much. Keep it simple.
Alright, I am not afraid to admit that the quote I'm sharing this Wednesday rates pretty high on the cheesiness scale, but it's also pretty true and brilliant...
One thing I actually say a lot is that: you shouldn't say you can't when you can. People don't think enough about what "can't" is. Unless you've tried, "can't" is a mentality. Even then most people with most things try and try again. Don't say "can't" when you mean "won't" or "don't want to". It's a cop-out, because (as cheesy as it sounds) you really CAN do just about anything you dream and put your mind to and work for.
I think most people can agree (or at least agree it's been said) that the simple things in life can be the best and most important. I think that also applies to actions, where the most simple action can mean the most. I also think it can reflect on the type of person one is.
There is no doubt in my mind that forgiveness is important. I really like this quote because I absolutely believe that forgiveness is an attribute of the strong! Forgiveness is not easy, but it is important to be happy. It is an attribute that can bring a person peace and allow you to move forward.
Conversely, I think that the ability to apologize speaks volumes about a person. Isn't it funny how something as simple as genuinely apologizing can be so difficult for so many people. Some people do it because they have to, some people apologize sarcastically or in an insincere way, but there is something special about that real life "sorry". So whether forgiveness or apology, I think both are attributes of the strong, and both are important to lead the happiest of lives.
I almost feel like these could easily go with the 15 Things to Give Up to Be Happy post... :)
I'm SURE I've probably posted a quote about laughter before and I am SURE I will probably post a quote about laughter in the future, but I truly believe that laughter is one of the best and most important things ever. And love, well love speaks for itself. I saw this quote and thought it was absolutely perfect and absolutely true to life. Love and laughter, to me is perfection.
Well, isn't this the truth! :)
One more to add to my favourite designer quotes collection...
Last week was the 15th Anniversary of Sex and the City. Man, what a show! It changed, reassured and empowered so many women. The show itself was a real, raw, fashionable, beautiful celebration of women. Since it's finale we've never seen anything quite like it, and I'm not sure we ever will. Personally, I'm okay with that. I don't seem to ever get sick of watching old episodes! In honour of the anniversary (and in the spirit of "better late than never") here is a favourite quote of mine from show which was spoken in the final episode...
