Happy Easter Weekend!

Easter, holiday, spring
Can you believe it's that time already? Easter this year is super early, but I do not mind at all since lately I can't seem to focus on anything else but SPRING! Spring colours, spring weather, spring jackets, spring clothing - you name it! Easter definitely incorporates all of that. I mean, can you actually look at that picture of those colourful Easter eggs and not smile? I certainly can't! Easter also means a long weekend which is not too shabby, not too shabby at all. Happy Easter (weekend)! :)

Spring Breakers Style

I am sure by now we ALL know that the movie Spring Breakers is coming out this Friday. I can't remember the last time I saw this much promotion and press around a movie that was not a blockbuster. The funny thing is that I don't think it looks particularly good and none of the promos or press actually include reviews. I suppose we'll hear (or see) if it's any good soon enough!

One thing I will say about this movie, is that the young starlets of this movie have absolutely been killing it when it comes to their fashion on the press tour!
In honour of this much talked about film, I figured I'd showcase some of my most favourite looks the leading ladies have donned - my ABSOLUTE WITHOUT A DOUBT favourite being the yellow Alice+Olivia dress Vanessa Hudgens is wearing below

Coach's Shoe Closet

I have never purchased shoes from Coach. Nor have I ever associated shoes with Coach. That is until late last week when Coach changed their cover photo on Facebook. Initially I was drawn to the look of the "Shoe Closet", then after a closer look I realized it was their shoe closet with their shoes! And what lovely shoes they appear to be...

Coach, shoes, closet, home, fashion, style

After clicking through to see close ups of their selection, I picked out a couple of favourites! I really liked their Lizzie Heel in Bright Coral (that kind of remind me of the Kate Spades shoes I previously shared) and the Coco Flat Sandal in (neon) Yellow/Ginger. I can picture wearing those all the time in the summer along with my favourite Sam Edelman Gigi sandals!

I think it might be time for me to rethink Coach and pay more attention to their shoes!

Pantone's Jewel Tone

pantone, emerald, fashion, colour, style
Both dresses: Jacob | Top: Zara | Bracelet: Kate Spade | Earrings: J.Crew | Shoes: Steven | Bag: Tory Burch

Better late than never! I'm sure by now we all know that the Pantone Colour of the Year is Emerald. Originally I wasn't too sure about it - I mean, of course it's fine for winter and fall, but what about spring and summer? Well, after seeing more and more designers bringing this colour to life in their collections for the coming warmer months, I am a believer and love the idea of rocking this jewel tone all year long.

What do you think of Emerald?

Funny Friday: Fashion Insultants

A couple of weeks ago I was watching Jimmy Kimmel and there's a segment he did with Guillermo and his Aunt Chippy called Fashion Insultants. I just tracked it down to share because I thought it was hilarious and I hope you do too! It's about exactly what it sounds like it's about, and it's so good. Happy Friday!

Love It or Leave It: Lucite

So it seems a new fashion trend is popping up. That fashion trend is Lucite being used in footwear. I feel like this started when Christian Louboutin used Lucite for the upper part of his shoes a few years ago. Remember the ones where the whole shoe was Lucite except for the cap of the toe? Well now, the trend has moved to another region - the heel. Yes, Lucite heels - or as I can't help but refer to them after a famous stand-up bit from Chris Rock: clear heels. So I ask, love it or leave it? I have picked here some super high-end styles to illustrate the trend in question. My opinion: leave. I mean, we can't possibly love them, can we? I have yet to see someone actually wear a pair, but I can't wrap my head around it at all. I also am not a big fan of block heels - they remind me too much of the 90's.

I am very interested to know if anyone is on board with this style, owns this style, or has even seen this style. And much like the platform sneaker trend (which I'm still not quite on board with), I wonder if this will stick around.

And if you don't know the Chris Rock reference to clear heels, Google it! I think that is another reason I can't wrap my head around this trend...

An Ode to What Not to Wear

It's (kind of) the end of an era. After 10 seasons of lost (fashion) souls, of the worst clothes we've seen, of the best clothes we've seen, of laughs, of tears, of transformations - TLC's What Not to Wear has announced the show is coming to an end. This summer the final episodes of the series will be aired. I absolutely love watching this show and am definitely sad to see it come to an end.

What Not To Wear, TV, series finale, fashion, clothes, advice

I have loved watching the people get transformed and gain confidence with their new styles. Some of the stories on this show are super heart warming and actually bring tears to my eyes - when people are super kind, really deserve it, and give so much, it's nice to see this show give them something back. Aside from that there is also the overall entertainment - some of these people are hilarious (in good but sometimes bad ways) and seem to be able to justify all their fashion crimes! It's ridiculous what some people try to pull off. Also hilarious: Stacy and Clinton. THESE TWO CRACK ME UP. I'm not sure if it's just me but in the past few years they have gotten funnies and funnier! They play off each other SO well and just lighten every situation. And if a situation arises that they can't lighten up - like a difficult participant - then they go have a drink! It's the best.
What Not To Wear, Ted Gibson, Carmindy

We can't forget Ted Gibson and Carmindy! I love Ted Gibson. He is so sweet to these women and is truly an artist when it comes to his work on them. I am always amazed at the final result he produces. Sometimes I think HE is the one that gives them this new lease on their lives. He is also incredibly respectful of any reservations they might have and really walks them through the process. There is a reason he's a renowned stylist! And Carmindy - I do like Carmindy and think she's definitely great at what she does, but I've never felt she's tried to bond with the participants as much as everyone else. I do also enjoy seeing what she's wearing every episode! I like her bohemian style.

When watching the show I of course love watching the fashion. Not just the participants' transforming fashion, but also Stacy's fashion. She (of course) has great style! My favourite style moments though? Her outfits during the "rules"/360 room segements and at the end of the show during the big reveal. It's at these parts that she always tends to wear really great dresses, and I love dresses! They always inspire me for work-wear fashion (the ones that aren't on the shorter side anyway). They also always make me think that I should get some more dresses for how effortlessly chic they are! New fashion resolution perhaps?

To conclude my ode to What Not To Wear, I've compiled a few of my favourite Stacy looks:

P.S. Has anyone been watching as long as me and not only remember Nick Arrojo (the hair stylist they had for several years) and Wayne Lukas (the first male stylist they had that Clinton replaced)? I did NOT like either of them but felt the need to bring them up as there were a part of it all! :)

Weekend O' the Irish

Sunday is St. Patrick's Day. If there is anything you should know about St.Patrick's Day, it's that it IS my favourite holiday... EVER! I'm not really sure how that got to be but I remember as a kid my mom would always get excited about St. Patrick's Day, we'd dress in green, and I'd wear a big shamrock pin and... yeah, so it probably originated there, haha! I so look forward to this holiday as it's just about green (Pantone colour of the year anyone?), fun, beer, and the odd Irish jig.
St Patricks Day, holiday, green, fun, trip
Last year: leaving for Montreal

The past couple of years I've gone away for St. Patrick's Day: Boston two years ago (amazing and my favourite) and Montreal last year. This year I am also going away, but to Niagara Falls! As a Patty's Day destination it doesn't really make A LOT of sense, but that's neither here nor there. Last summer my roommate won a trip for two to Niagara Falls and (due in part to its impending expiry) we decided to use it now! The trip includes a business class (read: free drinks) round trip train fare and 2 night stay in a two-room deluxe suite at the Fallsview Hilton Hotel! What?! Yup! So we are heading down the morning of St. Pats and going to the nearest Irish Pub the second we arrive (I Googled it, there is one). Last year apparently the Falls were green and I would love it if they were this year too! Our second night I think we'll tour around a bit as we both haven't been there in years, and go out for a nice dinner. Very much looking forward to it!

May you all have a safe and fun St. Patrick's Day! *Insert Wee Irish Jig Here*

Snakeskin Capped Off With Neon

You can tell the seasons are starting to change with the amount of new things I finding, wanting and sharing! My latest find are beautiful snakeskin flats from Banana Republic with a coloured cap toe. First off, I have never really been especially fond of Banana Republic shoes (maybe they're fine but I just don't look at the right times) but these caught my eye and it was longing at first sight! Just as I am picky with prints like leopard prints, I am equally as picky when it comes to snakeskin print! In clothes I find it can wash someone out (if you're on the pale side), and in general, if it's not the right print it WILL look cheap. Online the print for both looks just fine to me, and the coloured toe gives these shoes the extra "ooomph" they need to spice up the print! I just love these.

This is yet another scenario where I'm having trouble picking a favourite!

Shopping Advice via Lauren Conrad

I've already featured Lauren Conrad as one of my style icons, and with her own fashion line and style book, I think we can say the girl does know her stuff. I came across a snippet of an interview she recently did with Redbook magazine and she had what I thought was really great advice when it comes to shopping! It's advice that I think could help with the whole "shopping your own closet" idea, but if shopping in a store/online, it will help ensure you make wise decisions when it comes to your purchases.

When it comes to shopping her advice is to pull out your 10 favourite pieces or most worn pieces and lay them out. This will help you "figure out what you gravitate toward, what makes you feel good". Two perks of this: that you have a clear view of what you actually wear, and what you WILL actually wear; also that with these pieces in mind, you can build a wardrobe around them which will keep them in rotation! She also mentions the usefulness of this practice when thinking about accessories - you won't be as likely to buy things on a whim and realize that it doesn't go with anything you wear!

To try out this advice I decided to scour my closet for my favourite/most-worn pieces. In order to get a well rounded and most accurate view, I made sure to include work attire as well. These are the pieces I came up with

Will it help? Time will tell. What do you think of this advice? Do you have any tricks or tips yourself to make sure you get the most bang for your buck?

Style Icon: Kate Moss

For my next featured style icon, I have chosen Kate Moss. I think she is an obvious choice having been in the fashion spotlight for, like, ever. Although she has had her highs and (countless) lows in the press and in her personal life, I still really enjoy her. Especially her fashion sense. Her style is very model chic, meaning lots of clean lines, neutrals and even more black! One thing I also noticed about her style is her overall lack of accessories. In my constant efforts to accessorize myself, it makes me feel better to be reminded it's not the be-all-end-all

Kate Moss, Style Icon, Fashion

Kind of the way I love old photos of Audrey or Marilyn, I also love the photos Kate has taken over the course of her career. For that reason I would LOVE to get my hands on her book Kate: The Kate Moss Book. I think it would be a perfect coffee table book! It comes in 8 beautiful covers (below) shot by shot by Mario Testino, Corinne Day, Inez & Vinoodh, Craig McDean, Mert & Marcus, David Sims, Mario Sorrenti, and Juergen Teller. Definitely not expecting a high-quality read out of it - but more as an adult picture book... :)

Funny Friday: Female Reality

fun, humour, women, funny friday

Let's not pretend that this isn't a little bit true! We really can be complicated little creatures and I just thought this was too hilarious not to share. Sometimes this is just the way we are...  :)

Splurge vs Save: the Skeleton Watch

I previously mentioned that I have my eye on the Marc by Marc Jacobs Henry Skeleton leather watches, but while I pine away over those (and they are actually sold out most places anyway), I've found a comparable watch that is not nearly so pricey! Yes it's not as incredibly cool as the Skeleton watches, BUT considering they are about $170 less, I think that is just fine. The price of the Skeleton watches vary but no matter what you are looking to drop about 200 bucks, whereas this American Eagle find will only set you back $25.

I will also admit, these pictures are quite deceiving - the American Eagle watch does not look nearly as bright or neon as the Marc Jacobs one, but I promise you, I've seen it in real life and it is VERY neon!

It's in the Bag: PFW

Previously I showcased some purses that were seen on the streets outside of New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week, and in an effort to avoid being too repetitive I actually was going to skip Paris... that was until I saw the street style that is! Of all 3 collections, this has to be my favourite!!!

I was pretty torn on which I loved the most, but I think I've put them in order the best I can, starting with this snakeskin/neon/metal beauty!

Zara Online Eh?

I cannot believe it. Well, it's 2013 so actually I can. Zara is FINALLY (and that is a BIG finally) bringing online shopping to Canada. If I am correct the US has been able to shop Zara online for awhile... well, better late then never, tomorrow we will have that ability as well! *HOORAY*

You can bet that I will promtly test out their site and make a purchase, only for research and review purposes of course! :) I'm very excited about this, not because I'm a huge Zara fan (which, more often than not, I am) but mostly because I am not a mall person anymore so the easier my go-to stores make it for me to shop without driving around town, the better!

Attraction Alert: Coloured Lens Ray-Ban Aviators

Summer, are you here yet? Because I've found your perfect sunglasses

I have seen these sunglasses pop up a couple of times in the past couple of weeks and I can not get enough! They are your traditional Ray-Ban Aviators and come in about 6 different colours. They also come in either a gradient lens or a mirrored lens. Apparently mirrored lenses will be big for spring/summer - who knew?! Not sure if I'm a huge fan of mirrored lenses (they kind of make me think of sunglasses from my childhood and I'm not sure if that's a good thing) but I'm willing to give anything a shot!

My biggest problem (which let's admit, is not a problem at all) is that I can't decide between the orange or the green lens...

Funny Friday: Oscars & Jennifer Lawrence

To cap of this week following the Oscars, I thought I'd share some funny things not just having to do with the Oscars, but also having to do with Jennifer Lawrence. I have said it a million times (or twice) and I will say it again: prior to seeing Silver Linings Playbook I really didn't like her much but now - after the movie, seeing interviews and her awards show flubs - I'm kinda loving her!

The first thing I want to share is a photo The Platform (best known for personalities such as P'Trique) posted on Facebook yesterday, with the caption "Who else thinks this should be an actual ad in the next issue of Vogue? Tumbling is SO chic right now."

Jennifer Lawrence, Dior, Oscars, funny
Here are a couple of Jennifer Lawrence videos that have been making their rounds on the internet this week. The first, her hilarious press speech after winning her Oscar:

And when she met Jack Nicholson for the first time after he crashed her ABC interview...

Have a fabulous weekend!
