Holy Movies Batman!

So I do like my movies, and I do like going to the theatre , but I seem to have gone a lot more often than normal in the past few weeks! I've not been blogging long and I already have 2 movie reviews up... and now I have 2 more! They are as follows:

The Ides of March...

GREAT movie. I am not a politico at all so I started off unsure as to whether or not it would feel dry in spots, or if anything would go over my head (I know even less about American politics and how that system works). Sure enough the story behind the party was the main draw.

Strong story and incredible acting. Names like George Clooney, Ryan Gosling and Phillip Seymour Hoffman are enough reason to have confidence in the film. Evan Rachel Wood, rocked the movie as well - other than her brief stint on the HBO show True Blood this was my real first impression of her and she was able to hold her own.

50/50...

Another GREAT movie (apparently I've been on a roll with my choices thank goodness; nothing worse than paying theatre prices and being disappointed). The movie is about a 27 year old who gets diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, and then the story takes off from there. Very emotional with a dash of hilarity. The story was very true to the situation and the reactions of his friends/family/co-workers etc.

What I liked about this movie was that it felt very personal. You became invested in what would happen to the main character and when he was feeling strong emotions, it was hard not to feel them along with him. Beautiful story from start to end

"I want to put a ding in the universe"

News broke last night that Steve Jobs passed away at the age of 56. He was the founder, and Chairman of Apple Inc. Easy fact. But wow, was he so much more.

Upon hearing the news my thoughts were that he didn't just change Apple. He changed the way we interact with technology and with each other. He changed the world. I truly believe that.

It's that thought that also makes me scared. Scared that we have lost a brilliant and innovative man. It's not everyday that someone changes the world! What does this mean for the future of technology? Logically I can put together that Steve had previously been sick, forcing others to takeover the helm of Apple, and contributed to where it is today. There is no doubt though, that the Apple we know and love, the Apple whose products are ubiquitous throughout the world, was brought there by Steve. I hope we can make him proud and that we can somehow move forward and continue to be creative and innovate in the way he was. Let's think bigger, dream harder, and become more.

"I want to put a ding in the universe". Well he certainly did.

Drive

Another quick movie review as I saw the film Drive with a good friend last night. I'm going to give it two thumbs up, but I'm also going to say it's not for everyone.

It is an indie film, which I tend to enjoy more often than not, and it felt like an indie film. It had the artistic element to it that might expect from one. I am a big fan of Ryan Gosling and although he's charging ahead into the mainstream now, it was nice to see him come back to indie as that's where I think some of his strongest performances have been. In this movie he is a man of few words but emotes with every movement and facial subtlety which proves his incredible talent.

It was an action movie; it was a thriller; it was a drama. It was good. Really good.

Quick facts:
  • Movie: Drive
  • Date Released: September 16, 2011
  • Starring: Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan

Dream House... Was Not So Dreamy

Last night I went to the movies with my cousin – we went to see Dream House. I wasn’t sure exactly what kind of movie it would be; whether it would be a scary movie, thriller, or something of the like. Turns out, I’m still not sure after seeing it.

As with most movies I see, I watched the full length trailer beforehand. Looked good! One fault (and post-link warning… sorry) is that the trailer gave away a key component to the movie. I was watching the movie thinking, “well they’re going to get to that part really quickly and then we’ll really get into the movie”. I was wrong. What I saw was the “twist” and I ended up watching about two thirds of the movie knowing more than the average audience. Luckily my cousin hadn’t seen the preview I did so she wasn’t “in the know”, but she agreed, that if she knew what I did, the movie would be ruined.

MOVING ON from my very specific problem, I thought the movie was ok. Average. Then came the ending and I felt like it had been someones after thought; almost an “Ooops! We have to wrap things up somehow!”.

Quick Facts
  • Movie: Dream House
  • Date Released: September 30, 2011
  • Starring: Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts

Well, here I am FINALLY!

It seems today like everyone and their cousins, boyfriends, aunt, pharmacist has a blog. So I thought it about time to see if I have a way with words.

I definitely have some intelligent opinions (I’m a B2B marketer that loves her job), the odd opinion (or several if the mood strikes me), and wildly random thoughts. Time will tell if it’s of any consequence to anyone else!

Loving life and hopefully you will enjoy my journey…

(TA-DA! Just like that my first blog post is done.)
